in 2006 as one small store in New Orleans in an area that flooded during
hurricane Katrina, World's Healthiest Pizza has launched an ambitious
business model that seeks to change the nutritional profile of fast food
in
America. By way of example, World's Healthiest Pizza is demonstrating
that pizza does not have to be part of the problem in our national
epidemic of obesity and chronic disease, but in fact can be part of the
solution.
We
believe enough is enough: it's time the 3 billion dollar pizza
industry rolled up its sleeves and repositioned pizza in
the way Americans want to eat. More than ever, consumers want healthy
alternatives. We see the nutrition and health wave sweeping the country
as an opportunity for our industry - something we call PIZZA
2.0. Those in the pizza
industry who do not adapt and evolve with healthier choices will soon be left behind - as they
should.
Simply
adding a scoop or two of whole wheat flour to your dough mix and calling
it a "wheat crust" pizza is not enough to move the needle on
our national obesity epidemic. To do so, means to change modern delivery pizza from what it is
- nothing more than a donut with tomato sauce - to a nutritious and
healthy choice.
Importantly,
we see our evolving and rapidly growing business as something akin to a
moral responsibility as part of the national food chain. We take our
role in this food chain very seriously and will do everything possible to make a difference by improving the quality of pizza sold in
this country and more importantly, work hard to improve the health and well-being of
every single customer that gives an opportunity.
